“So Proud of Adam!” — Brian May Praises Adam Lambert’s Stunning, Spontaneous Performance of *Nessun Dorma*

Queen fans were treated to an unforgettable moment on July 10 in Bologna, Italy, when frontman Adam Lambert delivered a powerful, impromptu rendition of the iconic opera aria Nessun Dorma. The performance was unexpected, goosebump-inducing, and so moving that guitarist Brian May took to Instagram to share his pride and admiration.

Lambert’s soaring vocals filled the Unipol Arena during Queen’s first of two nights in the city, leaving the audience stunned and deeply impressed by his operatic range. For May, the moment had a personal resonance:

“A spontaneous gift to Bologna last night!!! So proud of Adam!!! I can see our dear departed friend Luciano smiling!! Let’s Rock tonight!!!”

May’s reference to Luciano Pavarotti is no small compliment. Nessun Dorma — originally from Puccini’s 1924 opera Turandot — became a global sensation when Pavarotti performed it during the 1990 FIFA World Cup. For Adam Lambert to take on such a beloved, technically demanding aria so effortlessly speaks volumes about his vocal ability and artistic bravery.

A Night of Rock, Opera, and Pure Emotion

Though Lambert has always had a reputation for impressive vocal power, this spontaneous moment showcased a different side of him: controlled, classic, expressive — yet unmistakably Adam. Fans described the performance as “jaw-dropping,” “unexpected magic,” and “one of the greatest live surprises Queen has ever given.”
