Dick Van Dyke Isn’t Slowing Down at 99

At 99 years old, legendary Hollywood icon Dick Van Dyke is showing no signs of slowing down. During a recent visit to the gym, Van Dyke ran into fellow entertainer Rick Springfield, 76, and the resulting photo is an inspiring snapshot of vitality and longevity.

In a post shared to Springfield’s Instagram, the two stars posed together mid-workout. Van Dyke sat at a biceps curl station, holding his cane in one hand, smiling proudly as Springfield flexed his muscles beside him.

“Filming an episode of Men’s Health and I went to the gym and who should be there but 99-year-old Dick Van Dyke working out on every machine,” Springfield wrote in the caption.

“Dick has lived in Malibu for about 30 years and is an awesome human being,” the “Jessie’s Girl” singer added. “I thought I was doing well at 76, but Dick got up from the chest press machine and did a little dance step before I left! ❤️ Amazing!”

The internet lit up with admiration for Van Dyke’s dedication and spirit. Fans left comments filled with praise and wonder:

“He is so amazing. What a great photo.”

“99?!!!! Oh wow!! Zest for life.. gotta grab it and keep it.”

“Two living legends showing us what true strength looks like. Proof that passion, health, and joy keep you timeless. Truly inspiring!”

Van Dyke’s commitment to fitness is nothing new. In a January appearance on Ted Danson’s podcast, Where Everybody Knows Your Name, the actor revealed his secret to staying youthful:

“Somebody said, ‘To what do you attribute your age and physical condition?’ I’ve always exercised three days a week,” he said. “We go to the gym still, and I think that’s why I’m not stove up like my equals.”

Danson, 77, recalled seeing Van Dyke at the gym regularly, dancing between machines like it was part of his routine. “You literally danced to the next machine,” he told Van Dyke, marveling at his energy.

Van Dyke also shared that his regimen includes stretching, sit-ups, and yoga—proving that consistent movement and joy are keys to his health.

While fans were recently concerned when Van Dyke missed a comedy event in June, his wife Arlene Silver explained he was simply having an off day.

“When you’re 99 and a half years old, you have good days and bad days,” she told the audience. “Unfortunately, today is not a good day for him, and he’s sick that he can’t be here.”

Still, Van Dyke continues to perform and delight fans. At another Vandy Camp event in April, he made it clear that he isn’t ready to stop anytime soon:

“I’m a ham. I love it. I get a jolt of energy from an audience,” he said, smiling.

As he approaches his 100th birthday later this year, Dick Van Dyke remains a vibrant example of aging with grace, humor, and boundless enthusiasm. Whether he’s dancing through a gym session or charming a crowd, he’s a reminder that age is truly just a number.
