Rik Emmett had spent years believing a real Triumph tour probably wasn’t going to happen again. Then, at 72, he found himself back on the road playing “Lay It on the Line” and “Magic Power” for crowds that had waited decades to hear them again. This wasn’t the Rik Emmett of 1983. He had survived cancer, arthritis was affecting his hands, and some of the high notes he once sang were no longer realistic. So he adapted. The guitars were tuned lower, other musicians helped carry some of the vocals, and Emmett concentrated on what he could still do. Triumph’s 2026 run became their first proper tour in roughly 30 years. That may be what made the old songs hit differently. Nobody onstage was pretending that three decades hadn’t passed. They simply found a way to play them again.

For years, Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings could still play “American Woman” and “These Eyes” — but they couldn’t go on the road as The Guess Who. A long trademark dispute over the band’s name had left the two men who helped create its most famous music performing under their own names instead. That finally changed after a 2024 settlement gave Bachman and Cummings control of The Guess Who trademark. So in 2026, they did something fans had waited more than two decades to see. They went back on the road together as The Guess Who, including their first U.S. tour under that name since 2001. Bachman is now 82. Cummings is 78. They aren’t trying to rewrite what they did decades ago. They’re playing “No Time,” “These Eyes,” “American Woman” and the records people grew up with. Cummings put it simply: “Now we can go out and honor the songs.”

THE EAGLES COULD STILL SING IN PERFECT HARMONY WHILE GLENN FREY AND DON FELDER WERE THREATENING EACH OTHER BETWEEN SONGS. On July 31, 1980, the Eagles played a benefit concert for California Senator Alan Cranston at Long Beach Arena. Don Felder had objected to the band getting involved in a political fundraiser, and a tense exchange before the show pushed Glenn Frey over the edge. They still walked onstage and played. But the argument continued between songs. At one point, Felder told Frey, “Only three more songs till I kick your ass.” The band somehow finished the concert while the two men traded threats. Backstage, Felder smashed a guitar against the wall. That night became the end of the Eagles’ first era. They would not appear onstage together again until 1994. The harmonies survived the concert. The band did not.
