Eleven years since Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson last performed together. And after Neil Peart passed away in 2020, most people figured it was over for good. But the Fifty Something tour kicked off June 7 in LA, and it felt like something nobody thought they’d see again. Over 500,000 tickets sold across 88 shows. Then Fort Worth happened. The June 24 show was already pushed back due to travel delays from Mexico City. It got rescheduled to July 2. But on June 30, just hours before showtime, the band posted a statement — Geddy had been diagnosed with laryngitis and bronchitis. Both the June 30 and July 2 shows were called off. Now rescheduled for July 11 and 13. The band said if they can’t give fans their best, they won’t step on stage at all. After more than 50 years of touring, that’s just how Rush does it.

He spent decades fighting for the world to acknowledge it happened. So when Israel’s cabinet voted on June 28 to officially recognize that genocide, you’d think the System of a Down frontman would celebrate. But what Israel had quietly done for years before that moment changed everything. Tankian said Israel used AIPAC to lobby the U.S. Congress — actively blocking America from recognizing the Armenian Genocide for years. The U.S. didn’t officially recognize it until 2021. Now that same government made the recognition while Tankian believes they’re committing atrocities in Gaza and Lebanon. He posted an Instagram video calling it “the worst thing they could have done to Armenians” — using “our history, our genocide, our pain” for political advantage. He ended with two words no one saw coming from a man who fought his whole life for this moment.
