For nearly 40 years, Don Reid and Harold Reid stood side by side as two of the defining voices of The Statler Brothers. Don Reid carried the lead vocals, while Harold Reid’s deep bass helped give the group its unmistakable sound. That story did not end when the Statlers stepped away from the road. It continued at home, where music was never far from the dinner table, the porch, or the memories. Langdon Reid, Don Reid’s son, and Wil Reid, Harold Reid’s son, eventually carried that heritage into a new partnership of their own. As Wilson Fairchild, the cousins began performing music connected to the Statler tradition, bringing family harmonies into a new generation. Their performances did not try to imitate the past. Before the Statlers retired from touring in 2002, the next generation was already part of the creative circle. Don Reid has said that Langdon Reid, Wil Reid, and Don Reid’s other son, Debo, wrote songs that were recorded by the group. It was also happening in the writing room, where new ideas kept finding their way into the Statler catalog.

In time, Langdon Reid and Wil Reid built Wilson Fairchild into a duo that could stand on its own while still carrying the weight of the family name. Their bond is easy to understand: they are cousins, yes, but also children of two brothers whose voices shaped a generation. When they sing together, the resemblance is not only musical. It is emotional.

Harold Reid died on April 24, 2020, after a long battle with kidney failure. The loss left a quiet space where one half of that famous brotherly harmony used to be. Don Reid no longer had his brother beside him, and for fans, it marked the closing of a remarkable chapter.

But the music did not stop there.

Today, when Langdon Reid and Wil Reid perform, they are doing more than revisiting old favorites. They are preserving a shared family memory and making sure the Statler spirit stays alive in a new form. Their voices carry traces of the past, but they also sound present, warm, and personal.

That is what makes the story lasting. The brothers may have started it, but the sons are still carrying it forward. And in every harmony they sing, both family names remain in the next song.

Don, Harold, Phil and Jimmy stood with their arms around one another as the audience gave them one last roar of applause. With tears in his eyes, Don quietly spoke those four words. The microphones did not capture them. They were meant only for the men beside him. After the farewell gathering, Phil and Jimmy left with their families. Don and his wife, Debbie, rode the bus home with Harold and his wife, Brenda. They turned on the radio, pulled back the curtains and watched the darkness pass outside. There was no next city.
