Sir Tom Jones Surprises Locals with Unannounced Visit to Welsh Pub During Family Trip

Patrons of The Cross Inn in Llantrisant were left speechless when none other than Welsh music legend Sir Tom Jones made an unexpected appearance at the local pub. The 83-year-old icon, who was in the area attending a family funeral, stopped by for a quiet pint and a nostalgic return to his roots in south Wales.

Sir Tom, who hails from nearby Treforest, was described as warm, gracious, and more than happy to chat with staff and take a few photos. Pub landlord Martin Williams shared his appreciation for the visit, while pubgoer Kerrie Cummings summed up the mood perfectly in a Facebook post: “What a lovely man! Got to shake his hand and let him enjoy his pint – while everyone else just sat there stunned!”

A Touching Return Home

The unannounced visit occurred after a family funeral, with the reception held at Pontyclun RFC. Photos shared by the rugby club show the superstar mingling warmly with staff and guests, demonstrating once again that his fame hasn’t changed his down-to-earth nature.

Later that day, Sir Tom was spotted at another beloved local spot, The Bunch of Grapes in Pontypridd, just a stone’s throw from where his incredible journey first began.

A Musical Legend Still Going Strong

Though his visit was quiet and personal, it’s far from the only time Sir Tom has made headlines in Wales recently. In 2022, he performed with Stereophonics at the Principality Stadium, and last summer, he wowed crowds with a series of sold-out shows at Cardiff Castle.

Fans eager to see the music legend live won’t have to wait long. Sir Tom is scheduled to appear at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod on July 2, followed by a performance at Chepstow Racecourse on July 6.

Even after decades of stardom, Sir Tom Jones continues to surprise and delight — not just with his unmistakable voice, but with moments of humility and connection that remind fans why he remains one of the UK’s most beloved artists.
